Letter by Founder of Sent With A Prayer (September 14, 2001)

Dear Friends,

Hi! My name is Erika Soejoto and I am a 21 year-old college student living in Santa Clarita, Ca. After watching the television all day on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, like many of you, I felt that I needed to help. All of the media kept repeating that the best way to help was to donate blood. I thought " Great, that's what I'll do," but there's only one problem, I have needle phobia. On Thursday morning I woke up from a great dream that I was able to send a $1,000,000.00 check to Mayor Giuliani, himself. I knew that I couldn't do that alone so I started to talk with my step-dad, Bert Spencer. That's how I came up with S.W.A.P. (Sent with a Prayer). A way that everybody can help out of all ages and you don't have to see a needle. I was so excited and had so many ideas pouring out of my mouth. Bert enjoyed listening to me talk and that's when we got the ball rolling.

Our first goal was to find a non-profit organization to help support us. Bert suggested that we use The Ministries of Encouragement because it is a charitable non-profit ministry incorporated in the state of California. I liked the name because it doesn't specify a religion, but it does encourage people to live joyful and productive lives. Next I wanted to involve the whole nation, but that's a lot of people. The balloon idea rose up and we were ready to start.

My purpose is to show love by actively involving others and myself in performing a caring act for our suffering country and those in New York and Washington D.C. And my goal is to encourage those who are suffering with prayers, words, and financial support.

God bless this great nation!!!

In His Loving name,

Erika Soejoto
